At four years of age Mark Pampling won an art competition with a painting titled Grandma’s Roses. This was perhaps the start of his fascination with flowers and their artistic and creative possibilities. Almost twenty years later Mark abandoned painted flowers in favour of the real thing and has enjoyed exploring their design potential ever since.
Competitive floristry has played an important role in his career, with success in State and National competitions, and also a 3rd place prize at the 10th Interflora World Cup. Structured styles and clean lines have become familiar elements in his designing.
Mark calls Alstonville, in the lush north-eastern corner of New South Wales - Australia, home, and enjoys teaching advanced floristry regularly at the local technical college. He also co-owns Alstonville Florist. Free lance designing has taken Mark all around the Australia and the world, most recently to Japan, The Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Germany and The USA.
Sources of inspiration are many for Mark and may include a garden, an abstract painting, other designers, a fabric sample, a scrap recovered from the bottom of his tool box or a trip down to the local hardware store.
